Other Things Kate's Up To

For a few years the Naperville United Way held an artwalk fundraiser. Our company sponsored a fiberglass statue for Kate to paint. The outdoor sculptures were displayed downtown all summer and then auctioned off in the fall. Below are a few photos of the different themed sculptures.

2007 Mermaid Bench

How to meld the United Way's "Under the Sea" theme with Gnu Ventures Company's African Safari theme was a challenge. We came up with "Savannah Under the Sea." On the back of the bench is an underwater African savannah with zebra-striped sea horses, a rhino hermit crab, a flock of flamingo eels, and even a mer-gnu! Read more about it.

2006 Dragon

Kate and Don pose with "Gno Mail," their tribute to Dirty Dragon from Chicagoland's late '60s television show "Cartoon Town." Host Bill Jackson gave his blessing to the statue. Read more about it.

2005 Fairy Bench

This was our first sculpture and we named her "African Sa-fairie" to go with the Gnu Ventures Company theme. She took the most time to paint, and she was very difficult to part with. The sun porch looked so empty without her!

Grocery Stories

Tales of the weird things that happen when Kate goes to the grocery store. Sort of a blog, but more like short essays. Does this sort of stuff ever happen to you? Feel free to add your own odd Grocery Stories.
