As our nation prepared to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, Kate started collecting local Lincoln stories. The truthfulness of many tales was doubtful and in others the connection to the President was convoluted, at best. It reminded Kate of the popular parlor game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.”
In the spirit of the six degrees of connection theory, Kate researched a number of the stories from around Chicagoland and wrote up an article for TribLocal, the online news source from the Chicago Tribune newspaper.
The article received so many hits online that Kate was encouraged to illustrate the text with photos and give it as a presentation to community groups.
The presentation was so well-received Kate expanded on the information and photographs and published it in book form as Six Degrees of Abraham Lincoln.
