Kate participated in the Boone County Autumn Pioneer Festival in Belvidere, Illinois, dressed in pioneer costume. Since Ruth spent her adult life in Belvidere and is buried there as well, Kate provided a tabletop presentation of Ruth's Belvidere roots as well as the book.

Kate signed books at the Barnes & Noble in downtown Naperville, talked about Ruth and Naperville history, and offered teachers' resources and children's pioneer crafts.

The Senior Lunch Bunch at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Naperville hosted Kate for lunch and then enjoyed a power point presentation "Searching for Naper's Settlers."

Kate's husband Don, a professional voice-over actor, read an excerpt from Ruth by Lake and Prairie at an open mic event sponsored by the Naperville Writer's Group at the Bolingbrook Barnes & Noble.

Monarch Landing Retirement Community in Naperville hosted a celebration for residents and guests. As part of the impressive array of food and festivities, Kate gave two talks about the book, Naperville history and historical research, as well as providing some settler-type crafts for kids during the rest of the day.

AuthorFest 2007 at the Schaumburg Township District Library featured more than 50 authors speaking on topics from  Promotion to Plotting. While a great resource for fellow authors to network, AuthorFest was also attended by editors, publishers, and aspiring authors. Kate was one of the members of the Children's and YA Panel.

The Anderson's Bookshop tent featured several authors of Naperville books throughout the weekend. Kate manned the booth on Sunday afternoon and handed out wind boat instructions for kids to make at home.

Mainly new residents of Naperville viewed a PowerPoint presentation on the founding of Naperville and the detective work it took to track down who the earliest settlers were.

Girls dressed in 1830's clothing, learned how clothing, fabric and yarn were made by settlers. Afterwards, they created their own corn husk dolls.
