At a Garden Full of Spring Flowers

Is there anything more delightful than the exuberance of spring flowers? With all the rain we've been having, the violets and the bleeding hearts have really taken off in the garden!

Did you know that the Illinois State Flower is the Common Blue Violet? Of course, violets do come in several colors. If you look under the bleeding heart bush on the left side of this photo, you can see some white violets with blue throats.

Bleeding heart and violets are both sort of old-fashioned flowers and maybe that's why I like them so much. Also, they flourish in shade which is important in Naperville's older neighborhoods with their big trees.

Spring blossoms may be fleeting, but boy! are they welcome after the winter!
